Commemorative medal from the Detroit 250th Anniversary celebration in 1951. The circular bronze medal has a relief image on the obverse that depicts the landing of Cadillac and the founding of Detroit. Text along the image perimeter reads "Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac, Born 5 Mar. 1658 - Died 15 Oct. 1730." Additional text at the base of the image reads "Founder of Detroit With His Company of Colonists, 24 July 1701. 250th Anniversary, 1951." The sculptor's name, "Rene P. Chambellan," is shown in small text at the lower right side of the image. The reverse depicts an early Detroit street scene with a hotel, commercial buildings, and horse-drawn carriages. Accompanying text reads "American Hotel Block, Built 1807. Remodeled as Hotel, 1835, S.E. Corner Jefferson and Randolph" and "Where, As a Drug Store in 1838, Eaton Chemical and Dysestuff Company was Established in Detroit by Theodore Horatio Eaton. Canadian Branches, Windsor and Toronto." Stamped text on the edge of the medal reads "Medallic Art Co., N.Y. Bronze." Very Fine or better
